SMSFs and defined benefit pensions

A Self Managed Superannuation Fund cannot commence a new defined benefit pension after 31 December 2005 unless the terms and conditions of the pension were set out in the governing rules of the fund prior to 12 May 2004.

Defined benefit pensions that commenced before 1 January 2006 can continue to be paid.
