Do you have lost or unclaimed superannuation?
New measure to improve the lost and unclaimed superannuation process was announced.
The Government will increase resources for the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to reduce the amount of money held in lost accounts - including notification campaign to lost members.
The Australian Government will also assume future responsibility for the management of unclaimed superannuation. Once implemented, unclaimed superannuation money will no longer be paid to the States or Territories. This will provide a single access point for searching lost or unclaimed superannuation.
How does superannuation become "lost"?
When a superannuation fund is no longer able to locate you - it could be that you changed your job, your address or your name without informing the superannuation fund.
When this happens, the superannuation fund must provide details to the Tax Office and these details are stored on the Lost Members Register.
